What this covers

Siding, trim, porches and decks

  • Siding and trim

Washed, scraped, primed and painted, board by board.

  • Porches and ceilings

Ceilings, rails, posts and floors, where the weather hits hardest.

  • Doors and windows

Front doors, storm doors and window casings, done carefully.

  • Hills and tall houses

Extension ladders and planks set safely on sloped lots.

Before the paint

What I do before any paint goes on

This is what's written on the estimate as prep.

  • Wash the house

    • Dirt, cobwebs and chalk come off first

    • The house dries before anything is painted

  • Scrape and spot-prime

    • Loose paint is scraped back to firm edges

    • Bare wood gets primer before the topcoat

  • Caulk and repair

    • Gaps at trim and corners are caulked

    • Rotted boards are shown to you and priced apart

  • Cover plants, steps and windows

    • Shrubs and walkways are covered

    • Windows and fixtures are masked or removed

How it goes

A typical house, in the dry months

A house takes about a week of good days. I write a range on the estimate, and I move days when the weather turns.

  1. 01

Step 1: Days one and two: wash, scrape, prime

The house is cleaned and the bare spots sealed.

  2. 02

Step 2: Days three and four: first coat

Siding first, then trim, working with the sun.

  3. 03

Step 3: Days five and six: second coat and details

Doors, porch and a walk-around with you before we leave.

Questions about this work

What about weather and drying time up here?

Outside work needs dry days and a warm enough forecast. I check the data sheet for the paint we're using and watch the week ahead. If the weather turns, I move the day and tell you.

What prep is included?

Washing, scraping loose paint, patching small holes and cracks, caulking gaps and priming bare spots are part of the work I list. Larger repairs, like replacing rotted trim, are priced on their own line.

Can you help me choose colors?

Yes. I bring chips to the visit and we look at them in the room's own light. If you want a color consultant, I'll tell you plainly when that's worth paying for.

What does your warranty cover?

It covers my workmanship, in writing. Terms, limits and exclusions are in your written warranty, and I'll go through it with you before you sign.

Want the outside done this summer?

Text me a photo of the house. I look at outside jobs in winter and spring.
